At Avodah, justice is a Jewish value.
We believe that Jewish leaders have the power to help change our country for the better. We train and support early career Jewish professionals with the tools, knowledge, and networks they need to contribute their skills and passion to advance social justice across the country and deepen the fabric of our diverse Jewish communities.
Each year, the Avodah Jewish Service Corps serves more than 50,000 people and families facing poverty. We focus on the root causes and effects of social injustice, supporting local nonprofits across the country on issues including housing insecurity, criminal justice reform, legal advocacy, refugees and asylum seekers, food insecurity, youth and elderly services, adult education, health care access, and more.
In our 20+ years of excellence, Avodah's 1,200 participants have provided more than 1.9 million service hours to over 190 nonprofit partners across the U.S.
As we fight poverty in our country, Avodah is also building the next generation of Jewish social justice leaders. In fact, 82 percent of our alumni currently work within the social justice and anti-poverty fields. Our alumni are also 3x more likely to be involved in a synagogue or Jewish spiritual community in comparison to the national average.
"We're changemakers. Sometimes the changes we make are small, but to the individual clients we serve, our actions are life changing." - Olivia Bendit, Avodah Jewish Service Corps (DC, 2016-2017).
