"Addressing Both Physical and Spiritual Healing" - Bishop Alexander, Diocese of Sekondi
Tikobo Township, in Western Ghana, is home to cocoa farmers, cocoa company employees and their families, and traders from other regions. Poverty rates are high and teenage pregnancy is prevalent. Because of problems with illiteracy, self-medicating, poor sanitation, and poor hygiene, the community has a high percentage of residents fighting otherwise treatable diseases.
Despite the implementation of a national insurance plan, access to medical facilities remains a huge challenge to millions of Ghanaians. Due to the poor infrastructure and lack of health facilitators, residents of Tikobo Township have to travel great distances to seek health services. The nearest hospital is 56 miles away!
The Anglican Diocese of Sekondi has renovated and equipped a health clinic to serve the people of Tikobo Township. The clinic also provides patients, their families, and other community members with opportunities to interact with God’s Word through daily devotions. The diocese has paid for the clinic’s infrastructure and the government is paying for the necessary medical personnel.
Now operational, the clinic will reduce the number of deaths resulting from treatable illnesses. Providing healthcare is one of the most prolific mediums of evangelism and outreach in poverty-stricken rural Ghana. ARDF is honored to be a part of this project that reflects the ministry of Christ, who met people’s spiritual and physical needs.
